Gili Meno (How to disappear completely) – Part 1

Après le sud de Bali et ses rues touristiques (surtout le Kuta australien), on mourrait d’envie de se retrouver isolés du monde. Ca tombe plus que bien, notre prochaine étape c’est Gili Meno, une des trois Gilis (« île » en Sasak – langue de Lombok) au Nord-Ouest de Lombok. 

After few days in the South part of Bali, we were excited to leave the busy streets to our next and quiet place: Gili Meno, one of the three Gilis (means « island » in Sasak, Lombok language) at North-West of Lombok. 

Trajet en « fast boat » (1h30) de Bali à Lombok, puis Lombok – Gili Trawangan (la plus grande et plus touristiquement australienne des trois), puis public boat traditionnel pour rejoindre Gili Meno, la plus calme – 300 habitants, et une petite vingtaine d’hôtels bungalows discrets. Arrivés au port, on prend le transport local (pas de moteur sur l’île), le Cidomo (traduire par « une charrette tirée par un cheval pas épais mais vaillant »). After a fast boat from Bali to Lombok and Lombok to Gili Trawangan (the biggest and busiest) we finally took a public boat from Trawangan to Meno. The Island is free of engine, so the public transport here is the cidomo (horse). 

Et on arrive à destination : Sunset Gecko, hôtel de 4-5 bungalows tous différents, sur la plage, géré par Hiro, connaissance japonaise de Tib  (ce dernier l’ayant aidé sur quelques projets notamment à Sunset, il est un peu chez lui en quelque sorte).  

And here we are: Sunset Gecko, hotel of 4-5 bungalows, all with different shapes and made from different natural material, on the beach, whose manager (Hiro) is Tib’s friend from Japan. Actually Tib already came here to work on several projects.

L’hôtel respire l’esprit « eco-friendly », savon organique fabriqué sur place (les premiers avaient été faits main par Tib), bungalows en bambou, bois de cocotier ou autre bois naturel, pas de climatisation, recyclage, réutilisation de l’eau usagée pour les plantes, et plusieurs autres projets sont en cours. 
The hotel has a eco-friendly spirit: natural soap made there (Tib’s first project), bungalows made from bamboo, coconut or other natural wood, recycling, no air con, used water helps for the plants, and several projects in the pipe. 

Sunset Gecko, c’est l’endroit idéal pour se relaxer, comme passer ses journées dans les Baruga (petits abris sur la plage), boire des cocktails de fruits frais, manger local (poissons frais et spécialités indonésiennes),  lire, se reposer, s’allonger dans un transat pour les couchers du soleil quotidiens, etc. 
On a été plutôt bon sur cette partie de l’examen. 
 Sunset Gecko is THE perfect quiet place to relax and have some rest. Laying in the baruga (small bungalow on the beach – 4meters from the sea), drinking some fresh fruits juices, eating seafood and local delicious meals, reading, laying on the beach for the daily sunset, … We were good at our job!

Vous allez me dire, c’est bien relax. Mais plusieurs activités te font lever de ton baruga: snorkelling (ou voir ses premières tortues sous l’eau), plongée (j’ai passé le premier exam Open Water – enjoy!), quelques joggings plage autour de l’île (30min le tour), shopping (le village est assez petit quand même), et quelques visites sur Gili Trawangan et Gili Air. 

The hotel and the rest of the Island propose also some interesting activities: snorkelling (nice turtles!), diving (I pass my Open Water and really enjoy!), footing on the beach, some shopping (don’t expect to buy too much ‘cause only few small shops), visiting the 2 other islands around (Gili Trawangan and Gili Air).

Selamat Pagi my friends,

On y est, je quitte Auckland pour quelques vacances ensoleillées... direction Bali, Denpasar. Mon pote Tib me rejoint le 15, il s´était chargé de nous trouver un petit hotel sympa sur Legian (Ouest de Kuta). Sur place, on passe en mode repos-piscine-plage. Quelque balades dans les petites rues aux alentours, l´endroit et quand meme bien touristique (beaucoup d´australiens).
Here we are, Bali for some sunny holidays ! My friend Tib took care of booking a nice hotel in Legian (South of Denpasar), where we spent our first days in the pool, on the beach, walking around for some shoppings, lazy chilling time !!! Of course I will not forget our first Bintang and cocktails:

On profitera de notre passage sur Bali pour voir la presqu´ile au Sud, arret a Nusa Dua et Jimbaran. Coucher de soleil, cocktails, et petite rincée (saison des pluies oblige).
From Legian we have been around by car to the south peninsula of Bali, cities of Nusa Dua and Jimbara for the sunset (and the rain...raingin season my friends !). But nice view and nice cocktails ! What else matters ?

Puis une visite de la ville d´Ubud, village traditionnel avec temple et marché artisanal (un bon bazar!), et de bonnes rigolades dans la Monkey Forest (distribution de bananes aux singes bien bien affamés).
Then we visited the city of Ubud, North of Denpasar, with a nice temple and a busy (and messy) market ! Following by a good laugh in the monkey forest, bananas for the monkeys !

Has been a Champion

Selamat Pagi ! (Bonjour en Balinais)

Et oui, fin de mon contrat de travail dans le magasin Champions of The World, boutique "officielle" des All-Blacks !
Apres avoir vendu beaucoup de maillots "tout noir", et une casquette France (pas tres populaire chez les kiwis), me voici en vacances. A Bali d'ailleurs. Mais plus d'infos dans une prochaine news.

Que du bon temps dans le magasin, bonne ambiance, pas mal d'annectodes, 90% de touristes comme clients, de tous les pays du monde, ca ouvre l'esprit comme on dit.... mais tant mieux, mais tant mieux.
Pour remercier le staff et managers des 2 boutiques d'Auckland, quelques photos "souvenirs d'un Champion" ci-dessous.
Merci donc a Yasu, Michie, Asaki, Emile, Luke, Trish, Scott, Stephen, Kelly, Jana, et bon courage a James mon remplacant !

Holidays start for me as I did recently my last day at Chapions of the World, the best All-Blacks stores in New Zealand.
It was quite easy to sell many All-Blacks jerseys, but I failed in my main goal, selling only one French cap during the last five months (not really popular in New Zealand ;-)
Anyway, I really had a good time there, and I want to thank both managers and staff from Auckland stores !
Here are some pictures of Champions members, thanks to Yasu, Michie, Asaki, Emile, Luke, Trish, Scott, Stephen, Kelly, Jana and good luck for James, my successor !

This is a Van, my Van !

Voilà les premières photos inédites de mon Van, le BBB136 (bibibiwancertissix), qui sera ma maison de janvier à avril 2010.

Marque: Toyota; Année: 1994 (très bonne année pour un Toyota); Modèle: TownAce DX
KMs: 239 000 à l'achat; boîte manuelle.
ATTENTION: conduite à gauche de la route, à droite dans le van.

Comment reconnaître un français qui roule ses premiers kms sur les routes Néo-Zélandaises ?
Réponse: Facile, c'est celui qui met en route les essuie-glaces à chaque croisement...et oui, tout est inversé. Passer les vitesses de la main gauche, on cherche toujours le frein à main à droite mais rien à faire il a pas bougé.

The Van is great, a little bit old (1994, 239 000kms) but still in good condition for my trip ! I just need to get used to drive on the left side of the road (not easy for a French), shift gears with my left hand, and  try not to activate the wipers at each intersection...
